Greetings!
An ant can lift over 50 times its weight. A hornworm can eat an entire tomato plant by itself in one day. The giant hunting wasp can fly up to 48 miles per hour. A single book can be read by thousands of children at the same time.
Adults and children can learn more about insects, vegetables and books when Katherine Ayres, visits the area on Friday, April 11.
Pennsylvania's One Book, Every Young Child initiative encourages adults to share and talk about books and stories with children. The project is a collaborative between the Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Public Welfare. As the 2008 featured author, Ayres, who lives in Pittsburgh, will spend the month of April visiting libraries, schools and museums across the state.
"Ayres' book uses a sprightly rhyme to show how a variety of vegetables grow in the garden. Ink and watercolor illustrations provide plenty of details for children and adults to explore together."
