CSA...
stands for Community Sustained Agriculture. Basically it is a way to help small farms be able to use organic methods to produce heirloom veggies and such. You, as a subscriber, pay a fee up front and/or offer to work for a weekly or bi-weekly box of whatever the garden is producing. Last time, I received a beautiful mix of salad greens, sprouts, peas to shell, sugar & snap peas, and garlic scapes. The box is usually full of surprises and again, supports our local farmer. Today is the second drop and should have squash and pad choy (kinda like bok choy).
Freecycle!
I had heard about it and then read the article in the paper. Now I am a member. You join your local geographic area and then you receive the requests via email or digest. The object is, you have something to get rid of and someone needs it. This would be an item that would potentially end up in a landfill or just taking up space. No money, no bartering. So you can either post something that you want to get rid of or ask for something that you need. One person's trash, etc. I have already gotten rid of some stuff that has just been taking up space (space that I can potentially fill with other stuff!).
Dog update: (Come on, you weren't expecting me to not add this, right?)
Logan was a little under the weather this last weekend but seems better now. Today I trained Simon, the Dalmatian that I had done before, Vito, the Golden Retriever again, and Olive, a cute (did I say cute?) bull terrier mix. Olive is up for adoption. She has a ton of energy but is very, very well obedience trained. She will need a high energy owner. Another dog, Gator Bait (originally came from the Carolinas and according to his owner, that's what he was), has been adopted and in his new home. I love a happy ending!
Make it a great day!
